Strategic Event Planning delivered by our experienced consultants. We assess your event, determine your individual requirements, and develop a plan that covers the entire gamut of ground transportation services from planning and coordination through marketing, signage and onsite management to VIP guest services and postevent reporting.

GO Airport Express offers affordable, reliable and safe ground transportation services throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. Our airport shuttles provide transfers to and from O’Hare and Midway Airports 24 / 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

  • 24 hour reservations available online
  • Reservation agents are available from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • GO Airport Express is a city and state utility; because of this our vans are the only vehicles to load on the inner curb just outside of baggage claim. Passengers won’t have far to walk to reach their transportation provider. No other company can offer you this service!

Another strategy is to make vehicles more efficient, which reduces pollution and waste by reducing the energy use. Electric vehicles use efficient electric motors, but their range is limited by either the extent of the electric transmission system or by the storage capacity of batteries. Electrified public transport generally uses overhead wires or third rails to transmit electricity to vehicles, and is used for both rail and bus transport. Battery electric vehicles store their electric fuel onboard in a battery pack. Another method is to generate energy using fuel cells, which may eventually be two to five times as efficient as the internal combustion engines currently used in most vehicles. Another effective method is to streamline ground vehicles, which spend up to 75% of their energy on air-resistance, and to reduce their weight. Regenerative braking is possible in all electric vehicles and recaptures the energy normally lost to braking, and is becoming common in rail vehicles. In internal combustion automobiles and buses, regenerative braking is not possible, unless electric vehicle components are also a part of the power train, these are called hybrid electric vehicles.Shifting travel from automobiles to well-utilized public transport can reduce energy consumption and traffic congestion.

There is also a growing movement of drivers who practice ways to increase their MPG and save fuel through driving techniques. They are often referred to as hypermilers. Hypermilers have broken records of fuel efficiency, averaging 109 miles per gallon driving a Prius. In non-hybrid vehicles these techniques are also beneficial. Hypermiler Wanye Gerdes can get 59 MPG in a Honda Accord and 30 MPG in an Acura MDX.

For a lot of us moving a car means that getting into a car and driving from our old home to our new one. In some cases, for instance, a long-distance or even international moves we need to ship our vehicles separately. Some will need to ship cars, trucks, RVs, caravans, motor homes, motorcycles, boats and other vehicles. When this is the case, it can be easier, and more cost effective to have professional assistance.

Transporting cars can be rather intimidating, but in the right hands, it can be a fast, secure, and painless process. Your first task should be to find a well qualified, licensed, and bonded auto shipping company to ship your car for you. As with all car moving specialists you should be looking for one that has done it before. Depending on your individual needs you might be looking for companies with experience of moving boats, large RVs, motorcycles, motor homes or even moving internationally. Some vehicles, for example boats, need special lifting equipment to put them on to their moving trailer so you should ensure that the transport company of your choice has experience with the particular type of vehicle that you need to ship. Shipping a car within your home country is reasonably straight forward, but shipping internationally can be more complicated, and may require special attention. Make sure that the shipping company that you choose has experience with international shipping and can help you with the documentation, fees, restrictions and regulations of your chosen destination country as well as ensure that your vehicle gets there in one piece, and on time.

Another important thing to remember with auto transporters is that it isn’t always just a case of somebody hauling your auto from one place to another. Many companies use large vehicle transporters for standard-sized vehicles and your car may travel all over the country to deliver other loads before it reaches its destination. In some countries the transport truck will have to go through customs, weigh stations, and check points. The position of your vehicle on the transport itself can also determine when you get it. All of these factors, and more play a role in determining when you get your vehicle. Be sure to ask whether the car shipping company can give a fixed delivery date or an estimate within a fixed period of a few days. You may also want to ask if the transporter can guarantee a door to door service for the transportation, or if you will need to go pick up your car from a lot. The transport vehicles are often too large to negotiate small residential streets. In this case the auto transport service may offer an alternative pick-up point or the driver may use his judgment to unload the car in a safe and suitable location close to your home.

The type of transporter vehicle will vary from company to company and according to the type of vehicle you need to move. Options include open transporters, closed transporters, simple trucks, trailers and, in the cases of international moves, freight containers. Some people prefer to use a closed vehicle because your vehicle isn’t exposed to the elements but this is up to your personal preferences. Your primary concerns should be the safety and security of your vehicle – talk to your chosen mover in-depth about how they transport and what measures they take to protect vehicles.

Before you choose a provider you’ll also need to talk to them about insurance cover to check exactly how protected your vehicle is. Also take the time to talk to your own insurance company to assess your coverage during transit. In both cases look for any exclusions and restrictions so you can make sure you have the fullest possible coverage and you avoid any unpleasant surprises if an accident did occur.

Check out the small print of the company’s terms and conditions very carefully BEFORE you agree to hire them! You may need to pay more for coverage that suits the value of your vehicle.

Once you’ve chosen your vehicle mover you will need to prepare your vehicle. Most companies will check your vehicle out before they load it for existing damage and so forth. They will then agree the current state of the vehicle with you (you need to be present for this) and you will sign an agreement stating that the check has been accurately done. This covers them and you in the event that you need to make a damage claim after the move. You should wash your vehicle before they do this check so that they can see exactly what it looks like! Finally, you should talk to the company before they take your vehicle to check exactly what they need you to do to it before it’s loaded.

General tips include:

  • Empty out all of your personal possessions, documents etc including those you store in the trunk – many companies are not insured for damage or loss of personal goods.
  • For larger RVs or mobile homes close and lock all hatches and make sure everything is as secure as possible!
  • Check all of the fluids in the engine and check your battery is fixed in place.
  • If your vehicle is going by transporter or trailer your gas tank should have only about 1/4 tank. Some transporters charge by weight, and in cases car transporters are weighed at checkpoints and they can be delayed or fined for being overweight. Losing a bit of fuel can be a real help offset costs!
  • If you have customized your vehicle at all with specialty items remove them or make sure they are secure.
  • Finally, turn off any alarm systems, and make sure that the driver has the keys to be able to disarm and/or move the car when needed.

Ask for estimated pick-up and delivery times from your car transport company, and get them in writing. You may be able to get a 3-day window for pick-up during off season months, but during the busy season the window may be larger. The car transport company should warn you of possible delays ahead of time, but its best to get everything in writing, including the pick up window, clauses, and cancellation fees and penalties if they don’t pick up your car on time.

($50 discount, no fee to cancel, reimbursement for rental car, etc.) .

Once pick-up is made, your car transport company should provide you with a fairly precise delivery date. If you need an exact date for pick-up, most car transport services can pick-up your car and hold it at a terminal for an additional charge.

Preparing Your Car

Most companies will not allow you to carry more than 100 lbs of personal belongings in the vehicle during shipping, and it more than likely has to be in the trunk. Personal items inside the vehicle will not be covered if lost or stolen.

Make sure you inspect your vehicle with the shipping company. All exterior and interior defects should be noted. If no inspection is done, then the transport company probably won’t be liable for any damages. Also, when you pick up your vehicle at your destination, you will do another inspection. Make sure the transport company washes off your vehicle so that you can do a proper inspection. Do not pick up your car if you are in a rush!

Make sure that you vehicle is personally insured. Most transport companies will not repair damages due to normal road conditions. For example, if your vehicle is struck while sitting on a lot, even under the control of the carrier, your insurance would have to cover the damages. If the vehicle was damaged directly by the carrier, then the carrier would be responsible.

It is a good idea to have your vehicle serviced and the gas tank low (not empty) prior to transport.

There will be an extra charge if your vehicle is inoperable, or if there are any other additions to your vehicle such as camper shells, lifted/over sized trucks, and other things that you did not tell the company prior to shipping. Make sure you specify any and all modifications to your vehicle for a proper quote.

Make sure that you have a complete set of keys for the transport company, and a full extra set for yourself.

If you are transporting a classic, custom, rare, exotic, or otherwise expensive vehicle, go for the enclosed transport if you can… it will be worth the extra cost!

Always read your contract carefully! Do not rely on any verbal promises from your car transport company. After signing the contract your car transport company will always refer you to the contract for any complaints you may have, including cost to cancel your shipment, deductibles, claims, etc.

It is important to look for is any clause that says there is no guaranteed pickup or delivery date. Although most cars are delivered by car transport companies within the expected time frame, most will not guarantee a delivery date.

You can request the following things to protect yourself:

Ask for a contract clause (in writing) that waives the cancellation fee if the car is not picked up by your car transport company within an agreed number of days of the scheduled pickup date. If you cancel within the alloted time, expect to pay a fee, which can vary from $50 to $250. Although most cars are picked up on the scheduled date or within a few days of that date, a delay of 1 or 2 weeks may occasionally happen. Your cancellation clause should allow for at least a week beyond the date scheduled for pickup.

It is difficult for any car transport company to promise a set delivery date, however, if your car transport company does offer a guarantee that covers a rental car, find out the cost of the guarantee, and the maximum amount per day that they will cover.

Before agreeing to have a company ship your car, ask for a copy of the transport company’s insurance policy. Your vehicle(s) should be insured against damage and theft by your car transport company. Ask if the carrier’s insurance is primary or secondary to your own insurance in the event of damage during car transport. Also ask if there is a damage deductible – get all guarantees in writing.

In addition to the coverage offered by the car shipping company, your own car insurance may cover your vehicle in transit – check with your car insurance company to verify. Look for exclusions on both policies.

Keep in mind that many car transport companies may discourage or prohibit you from leaving personal articles in your vehicle. Any personal articles left in the car are not insured – your home policy may cover these articles, but you should check with your home insurance agent to verify.

Also inquire if the insurance covers time that your vehicle is sitting in a lot between transports, and ask if after factory accessories, like spoilers, radios and alarm systems are covered. Your car transport company may or may not cover damage.
